4 Spots to Enjoy a Drink with a View in Florence, Italy

Florence is a magical city seeping with history, shopping, art, delicious food, and unforgettable views. But one thing Italians know how to do well is enjoy a well-deserved drink at the perfect time of day. Aperitivo, an Italian tradition, is typically enjoyed around the hours of 7 to 9 pm. At this time of day, restaurants will serve little snacks or appetizers to go along with a glass of wine, cocktail, or the typical Aperol Spritz. Any view of Florence is a good one as far as I’m concerned but here are a couple of great spots to enjoy “happy hour” with a breathtaking view while visiting Florence.

1. Caffè Gilli

Via Roma, 1R Florence, Italy

Located in Piazza della Repubblica, Caffè Gilli is a perfect spot for people watching and soaking up the energy of the piazza. The cafè is famous for being the oldest one in Florence. They have pastries so gorgeous you won’t want to eat them, and they make a refreshing Aperol spritz perfect after exploring all day. Just a few steps from the Duomo, Try and get a table outside to watch kids (and tourists) ride the charming carousel and if you’re lucky, to listen to one of the street performers sing or play music.

2. La Terrazza

Piazza della Repubblica 4 Florence, Italy

Also conveniently in Piazza della Repubblica, just a couple steps from the Duomo, is La Terrazza. It’s at the top of the department store called La Rinascente so you have to enter through their doors to get to the rooftop restaurant. Wait for a beautiful sunny day and grab a seat at this rooftop for a drink with an up close and personal view of the Duomo.

3. Signorvino

Via De’ Bardi 46/R Florence, Italy

A wine shop and a restaurant in one? Sign me up. This spot is perfect for browsing Italian wines followed by settling in for a drink, antipasti and of course, a view. Right along the Arno river, their quaint balcony seating has a great view of the Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence and the only one to survive World War II. Enjoy the balcony for sunset or at night to watch the twinkling city lights reflect into the calm Arno water.

4. Piazzale Michelangelo

If you’re looking to keep things on the cheaper side – drinking out in the open (like many other European cities) is legal in Florence. So grab a bottle of wine, a couple cups for your crew and head towards Piazzale Michelangelo to join dozens of other travelers at sunset for a gorgeous panoramic view of the city.
