A taste of Cocobeet

Cocobeet Juice Bar

57 Central Street Wellesley, MA | 781 – 772 – 1213

My friends and I were looking for a quick lunch spot in the Greater Boston Area and came across Cocobeet, the Boston based juice bar’s new location in Wellesley, MA. Their philosophy goes way beyond your typical trendy juice bar. Cocobeet structures their products around “plant packed living”, and everything they serve is organic, plant-based, GMO-free, and locally sourced when it’s possible for them. Everything is vegan, fresh, and deliciously good for you. They avoid high-pressure processing for their juices, so they end up producing a fresher juice with a shorter shelf life and two times the nutrients. A new juicing phenomenon that is actually better for you and worth the money.

The juice bar had a fresh atmosphere with silver brick walls, fun electric blue stools, and a sleek cooler full of colorful juices grabbing the center of attention. You get the feel of an active city lifestyle just outside of Boston where you can grab a juice or smoothie, or even a quick bite on the go. Some customers even settled in with laptops or saddled up at the bar for a lunch break. Most people don’t have the time to pick up a million ingredients and keep up with what foods are the best for you. Cocobeet’s doing that for us. Under each product in the cooler shelves, there were explanations of how it would help your body alongside a list of ingredients. Like a juice prescription, suggesting that fruits and vegetables are just as good as medicine and can aid in digestion, anti-inflammatory, detoxing, and more. For those who choose to partake in cleanses, they had options ranging from one to seven days including all liquid or liquid as well as raw foods.

I tried the “Forbidden Juice” with grapefruit, pineapple, ginger, lemon, cayenne, and turmeric that was loaded with Vitamin C with cleansing and disease-fighting qualities. I felt healthier and refreshed after my first citrusy sip. We also tried one of their organic health shots with ginger and kale. It had a sharp, spicy taste but the health benefits and cleansing properties made it easy to look past the deep green color and potent smell. The “Survival Kit” smoothie was bright pink from the pitaya fruit, also known as dragon fruit, and tasted tropical yet earthy with hints of avocado, cucumber, and other fruits like strawberries, pineapple, and mango.

For food, they carry pre-made seasonal salads and vegan desserts like cheesecake and key lime pie that are made with nuts and fruits, designed to keep your energy pumping all day. For their made to order selections, they have toasts, smoothie and grain bowls, sandwiches, sides and small bites. The bright smoothie bowls topped with homemade granola, bananas, and other fruits looked like they came straight from Hawaii. I couldn’t resist the avocado toast that came topped with bursting cherry tomatoes, peppery arugula, red pepper flakes, and a layer of sunflower seeds for a nice crunch. Having made and bought several forms of avocado toast before, I would go back for this one and even try to recreate the recipe at home.

I was tempted to pick up one of everything but the pricing makes Cocobeet a splurge for recent college graduates like myself. The juices range from $7.50 to $9.95, bowls and salads are $10.95, while sandwiches and sides linger around $7. But that won’t stop me from popping in again to try a new colorful juice sometime soon and listen to their upbeat, comforting playlist filled with artists like Vance Joy, Trampled by Turtles, and The Lumineers. Overall I would recommend Cocobeet to someone who is looking to try something new and healthy, deals with several dietary restrictions, or lives an active lifestyle. With their cool, fresh environment, extensive menu, and excited staff, it’s clear that anyone would be welcome to try out Cocobeet.
